Visit of Mr. Jean-David Levitte to India, Diplomatic Advisor to President Nicolas Sarkozy as part of “Mapping the Present, Building the Future : Global Challenges in the 21st Century”
Diplomatic Advisor to the French President, Mr Jean-David Levitte was on a visit to India where he held discussion with former Foreign Secretary of India, Mr Kanwal Sibal as part of the larger purview of “Mapping the Present, Building the Future”. The discussion between these two eminent personalities -– “The major poles of the contemporary world, between dialogue and confrontation” — was an important and integral highlight of the seminar, involving other eminent French and Indian personalities to reflect upon theoretical and intellectual concerns, born out of the reality of their respective societies.
The bilateral dialogue at the conference – “Mapping the Present, Building the Future” — featured leading policy-makers and intellectuals from both countries, who discussed issues like democracy, environment, national identity etc, which are of relevance to both countries.
Prominent speakers at the conference included noted Director General of TERI, Mr R K Pachauri, French philosopher and writer Catherine Clément and senior research fellow at CERI Christophe Jaffrelot. The Indian participants included, among others, telecom guru Sam Pitroda, senior media personalities Gursharan Das and Dileep Padgaonkar.
