Cultural, scientific and technological cooperation [fr]

Cultural exchanges between France and India have always been very intense. A bilateral cultural dialogue was established in the 1980s, with the first festival of India in France held in 1985, and the first festival of France in India in 1989.
From 2009-2010, the launch of "Bonjour India", a cultural festival conducted by the French Institute in India, the Alliances françaises and the Consulates General, has made this dialogue even more regular. The next edition of Bonjour India will be held in January-February 2022. The latest edition of "Bonjour India" was held from March to May 2022.

The French Institute in India (IFI) facilitates academic and scientific exchanges, encourages student mobility, promotes French language learning and artistic and cultural partnerships and debates on various ideas between France and India. Bilateral cooperation on culture is also manifested in the promotion of gender equality in the cultural and creative industries.

The IFI’s linguistic and educational cooperation department promotes learning the French language in India through cooperation with Indian schools and universities. It also coordinates the certification of French language exams such as the DELF, and supports the development of French schools in India.

Academic and scientific cooperation

Scientific and technical cooperation, another key area of our partnership, brings together French and Indian researchers and research laboratories, particularly during the "Knowledge Summit", the latest edition of which was held in Pune in November 2021.

This cooperation is based on a centre bringing French and Indian researchers and scientists together, CEFIPRA/IFCPAR (Indo-French Centre for the Promotion of Advanced Research), which celebrated its 30th anniversary in 2018. The development of joint research laboratories in promising areas (neuroscience, chemistry); the two French Institutes in Delhi and Puducherry; the research centres and a very strong presence of French research in the private sector (10,000 to 20,000 persons) completes our presence.
