Visit of French Minister of State, Brune Poirson to India [fr]
H.E. Ms Brune Poirson, French Minister of State attached to the Minister of Ecological and Inclusive Transition, was on a three-day visit to India to strengthen Indo-French cooperation on climate change, renewable energy, and sustainable development.

Ms Poirson was received for bilateral meetings by her Indian counterparts: Shri Suresh Prabhu, Hon’ble Minister of Railways; Shri Narendra Singh Tomar, Hon’ble Minister of Urban Development; and Shri Piyush Goyal, Hon’ble Minister of State (Independent Charge) for Power, New and Renewable Energy, Coal, and Mines; and Shri Harsh Vardhan, Hon’ble Minister for Science and Technology, Earth Sciences, Environment, Forests and Climate Change.
On the first day of her India trip, she spoke at the third edition of the Business and Climate Summit organized by the Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FICCI), themed on “Milestones to 2020 and Beyond under the Paris Agreement”.
In the course of her visit, Ms Poirson held discussions with Dr Ajay Mathur, Director General of The Energy and Resources Institute (TERI), and Shri Upendra Tripathy, Interim Director General of the International Solar Alliance. At the Indian Renewable Energy Development Agency Limited (IREDA), she participated in a meeting on climate finance.
The Minister brainstormed with stakeholders offering innovative solutions for environment conservation as well as exchanged views with representatives of think-tanks on best practices for the implementation of climate change mitigation policies. At the invitation of Dr Leena Srivastava, Vice Chancellor - TERI University, Ms Poirson interacted with students and addressed them on the theme of “Implementation of the Paris Agreement: the Way Forward”. She also met members of the French Smart Cities Club, an umbrella organization of French companies in India offering expertise in the entire gamut of areas falling under sustainable urban development.
She also visited the innovative NGO, Goonj, which carries out a wide range of work in the circular economy, including the transformation of urban discard into resource and rural income generation.
