Ambassador Richier at the inauguration of the Green Line of Bangalore Metro
H.E. Mr. François Richier, Ambassador of France to India visited Bangalore, 27th-28th February 2014, on the occasion of the inauguration of the Green Line of Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Limited (BMRCL) - the stretch from Sampige Road to Peenya Industrial Area. This line opened for public from 1st March 2014.
Mr. Richier was accompanied by Mr. Eric Lavertu, Consul General of France, and Mrs. Aude Flogny, Regional Director of the Agence Française de Développement.
The French Embassy and Agence Française de Développement (French Development Agency – AFD) signed 110 million euro Project Financing Agreement with BMRCL for Financing Phase I of Bangalore Metro Project in Bangalore on March 5, 2013.
The financing, which amounts to 110 million euros, has been earmarked for a long-term Credit Facility Agreement between AFD and the Government of India, which was signed on February 14, 2013 in Bangalore. The funding aims at supporting the implementation of Phase I of the Bangalore Metro Project, in partnership with the Government of Karnataka, the Asian Development Bank (ADB) and the Japanese International Cooperation Agency (JICA). Other Indian banking institutions are also contributing to the funding of the project.
This project reaffirms the resolve of the Governments of India and France to strengthen their partnership in the urban infrastructure sector.
