A delegation from the French Embassy in India visited Chennai and Pondicherry from 19 to 23 February.

Rencontre avec M. K. Pandiarajan, Ministre de la culture du Tamil Nadu

Mrs Dana Purcarescu, Deputy Head of Mission at the French Embassy in India, Mr Emmanuel Lebrun-Damiens, Counsellor for Cooperation and Cultural Action and Director of the French Institute in India, accompanied by Mrs Fatiha Kammoussi, Education Cooperation Attaché, Mrs Alice Gauny, Chargé de mission for the Alliances françaises and Mr Eric Perrotel, Cooperation Attaché for French, South Zone were visiting Chennai and Pondicherry from 19 to 23 February.

In Chennai, they met with Mr. K. Pandiarajan, Minister of Culture of Tamil nadu. On this occasion, they were able to discuss cultural cooperation and the October edition of the Rencontres Francophones.

In particular, they went to :

The French international school EFIS Syshia in Chennai. There they met Mr. Salim Thomas, administrator, Mrs. Omana Thomas, provisional and Mrs. Marion Vercraene, director of the French school.

At the Alliance française of Madras. Welcomed by Bruno Place, the director, they were able to visit the premises and see the progress of the construction of the new building. They then had a hybrid meeting with the members of the committee.

The Alliance française of Pondicherry. They were welcomed by Dr. Sathish Nallam, President of the AF-P, Lila Kernoua, the Director, members of the committee and the Alliance team. They were able to inaugurate a "photo spot" fresco recently painted on the entrance wall of the building. They attended an Indian dance performance organised by the Annai Velangani orphanage.

Mrs. Dana Purcarescu, Deputy Head of Mission at the French Embassy in India, accompanied by Mrs. Lise Talbot Barré, Consul General of France, visited the Consulate General of France in Pondicherry and the French Office in Chennai where she met the teams.

Mrs Purcarescu and Mrs Talbot Barré also visited the French War Memorial in Pondicherry, where they observed a minute of silence in memory of those who died for France.

At the Lycée Français International in Pondicherry. After visiting the building, they took part in a working meeting with Stephan Madrias, the headmaster and the management team to discuss the school’s development prospects.

They then visited the French Institute of Pondicherry, where they were received by Mrs Blandine Ripert, the headmistress and the whole team. The delegation was able to appreciate the wealth of French research work in Pondicherry.

The visit to the Foyer du Soldat was an opportunity to discover this place of remembrance and to meet representatives of French veterans’ and ex-servicemen’s associations.

At the University of Pondicherry, where they met the Vice-Chancelor, Professor Gurmeet Singh, the Director of Schooling, Dr. B. Chithra and the Dean of the French Department, Dr. C. Thirumurugan. During the meeting, the language partnership and the sending of English language assistants to France were discussed.

At the EFEO (Ecole Française d’Extrême Orient) Mr. Dominic Goodall, director, presented the research activities, scientific publications and collections of the institution.

Finally, the delegation was able to meet with representatives of the French community in Pondicherry and Chennai to discuss the various issues of concern to our compatriots.

She Leads - au Lycée français international de Pondichéry

Saturday 20, Accompanied by Mrs Fathia Kammoussi, educational cooperation attaché, Mrs Lise Talbot Barré participated in the She Leads seminar, organised by the Lycée Français International de Pondichéry.

The seminar "toutes cheffes = she leads" is the first part of an event triptych dedicated to raising awareness among high school students about gender stereotypes and prejudices. The second part will be aimed at high school students and will question the biases and clichés of which boys are victims. The third meeting will bring together high school students in joint round tables to consider together the "smallest possible steps" to establish a 50/50 gender balance in the professions from the LKG to the board of directors.
