Visit of the Consul General in Chandernagore
Meeting the Mayor
The Consul General Damien Syed met the Mayor of Chandernagore Mr Ram Chakraborty during a visit in the city on 10 March 2016. Member of the Legislative Assembly for Chadernagore was also present.
Mr. Syed met the teachers of Chandernagore who teach French. Mrs Magosha Fréquelin, linguistic attaché of the consulate, conducted a workshop on communicative French with the teachers.
Teaching the Teachers
There was also an interactive session with the teachers as to how to improve French language visibility and make it more popular among the students. On the same day, Mrs. Fréquelin conducted a workshop for 100 students of class 7 till 12.
She organized a quizz show on the cultural aspect of France and she showed a power point presentation. Those who could give right answers were given prizes.
The Consul General was also accompanied by the representative of Campus France in Kolkata, Mr. Amitava Das.
They assured the teachers of Chandernagore about a next visit of the consulate’s team in April 2016. On that day the French team will organize a seminar and will discuss about the various opportunities that the students might get after learning French.
Meeting Father Orson Wells
During his visit in Chandernagore on 10 March, the Consul General Damien Syed inaugurated in the French cemetery with Father Orson Wells, Parish Priest of Sacred Heart Church of Chandernagore, a memorial to honour the French missionaries and priests who lived in Chandernagore after 1691.
Pupils of Saint Thomas School of Chandernagore were present for this event and sang during the ceremony.
