Visit of Mr Gilles de Robien, 18-19 April 2012

Mr Gilles de Robien, Ambassador for Social Cohesion and former Cabinet Minister, candidate of France for the position of Director-General of the International Labour Organization (ILO), was on a two-day visit to India on 18-19 April 2012.

As the French government Delegate at the Board of ILO for the last five years and as President of its General Conference in June 2010, Ambassador de Robien has thorough knowledge of the institution. The purpose of his visit was to exchange views and share his vision to give to the ILO the impetus required to meet the new economic and social challenges facing the world.

In the course of his stay, Mr de Robien held meetings with the three Indian members of the ILO Governing Body: Shri Mallikarjun Kharge, Government Member, Mr Nitte Manjappa Adyanthya, Workers’ Member, and Mr Yogendra Kumar Modi, Employers’ Member. He will also meet high-level dignitaries from the Indian government and the Parliament.
