Visit of HE the French Ambassador to India to Chennai & Pondicherry
His Excellency, the French Ambassador to India, Mr. Emmanuel Lenain, visited Chennai and Pondicherry from December 11 to 14, 2019.
Arriving in Chennai on December 11, His Excellency, the French Ambassador to India, Mr. Emmanuel Lenain, was able to discover the main actors of the consular district.
During the two days spent in Chennai, he was also able to participate in the launch of the IFCCI Mobility Committee, meet the director, the president, Mr. P. Kannanur and the committee of the Alliance française de Madras, and participate in a reception with personalities from the cultural, economic and academic worlds, and members of the French community.
He then had the opportunity to meet the staff of the French Office in Chennai and visit the EFIS school (Sishya Franco-Indian School). He then went to IIT Madras where he was able to discover the incubator for young companies, the research centre of the St Gobain company and attend a presentation on new banking techniques made by Société Générale.
On Friday, the day in Pondicherry began with a visit to the Lycée français international, he then went to the headquarters of the Pondicherry government where he was able to meet the Chief Minister, Shri V. Narayanasamy and Chief Secretary Shri. Ashwani Kumar, I.A.S. After a brief meeting with the local press, he went to Raj Nivas, where he was received by Lt Governor Dr. Kiren Bedy.
In the afternoon, he was able to discover all the charms of the French Institute of Pondicherry, and attend a conference on the blue economy, and finally he went to the Alliance française de Pondicherry where he met the president and his committee.
The day ended at the Consulate with an informal meeting with elected officials and members of the French community.
On Saturday, he was able to quickly visit Auroville, and meet long-established French nationals and about fifteen international volunteers. The visit to the district ended with a visit to the Cluny Sisters’ embroidery workshop, preceded by a meeting with the trustees of the Sri Aurobindo Ashram.
