Visit of Delhi-based NGO TARA Homes by Ambassador-designate
On Friday, 24 June 2016, Ambassador-designate of France to India, Mr Alexandre Ziegler, paid his first visit to the NGO, TARA Homes for Children, in New Delhi.
New Delhi, 24 June 2016
Founded in 2008 by a French national and licensed by the Department of Women and Child Development (Govt. of India), this NGO, which receives the support of the Embassy of France in New Delhi, hosts only those children sent to them by the Child Welfare Committee.
To date, Tara has rescued 80 children and is presently hosting 65.
TARA has 3 distinctive features as an institutional care program:
- A family-like environment in a non-institutional set-up (20 children per home);
- Education in the English medium, plus learning another foreign language;
- A ratio of 1 adult for 3 children to guarantee sufficient individual attention to each child.
These essential guarantees enable the children to grow confident, multilingual, self-reliant and help them to turn into inspiring role models when they return to their community after their stay in TARA.
TARA Homes is run by a multicultural team of social workers, teachers, advocates, experts in development and project management.
