Visit of Brune Poirson to India

H.E. Ms Brune Poirson, French Minister of State for Ecological and Inclusive Transition was on a visit to India on the occasion of the First Assembly of the International Solar Alliance.

H.E. Ms Brune Poirson, French Minister of State for Ecological and Inclusive Transition, was in India (2nd to 4th October 2018) on the occasion of the First Assembly of the International Solar Alliance (ISA), which was inaugurated by UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres and Prime Minister Narendra Modi on 2nd October.

On Wednesday 3rd October, along with Shri R.K Singh, Hon’ble Minister of State for Power, and New and Renewable Energy, Ms Poirson co-chaired the First Assembly of the ISA, six months after its Founding Summit, which had been co-chaired by the Prime Minister of India and the President of the French Republic.

Giving an impetus to the Alliance, over 40 countries were represented at the ISA Assembly, 26 at the ministerial level. All ISA stakeholders were present to review the rules and regulations governing the running of the Alliance, its work programmes as well as ongoing initiatives. On the margins of the Assembly, Ms Poirson held bilateral meetings with her counterparts from ISA member countries.

On 3rd October afternoon, Minister Poirson attended the Second Global RE-Invest India-ISA Partnership Renewable Energy Investors Meet & Expo, at which France was the Partner Country. She opened the RE-Invest session on “Renewable energy’s new technological frontiers”, highlighting Indo-French partnership in this area. She also visited the French pavilion at the Expo, accompanied by a delegation of French companies, including high-level executives from EDF, Engie, Total and Technique Solaire.

Ms Poirson took the opportunity of her India trip to hold bilateral discussions with her counterparts, Dr Harsh Vardhan, Hon’ble Minister of Environment, Forest and Climate Change, and Shri R.K Singh, Hon’ble Minister of State for Power, and New and Renewable Energy. She also met Shri Upendra Tripathy, Director General of ISA, as well as heads of noted think tanks working on climate change and environmental issues.
