The Consul General opens the Jadavpur University Model United Nations
The Consul General of France, Mr. Damien Syed, delivered, on 6 April, the opening address at the inauguration ceremony of Jadavpur University Model United Nations 2017.
Mr. Syed presented the French vision of international relations based on multilateralism. He stressed the commitment of France to peace, the European Union and the United Nations, including the reform of the Security Council in order to make it more effective and relevant. As an example of successful multilateralism, Mr. Syed emphasized the importance of the Paris negotiations in 2015 leading to the adoption of the first universal agreement on climate change.
Held from 6th to 8th April 2017, the third edition of this Model United Nations took place at Jadavpur University in Kolkata.
900 participants from India and other countries like Bangladesh took part in three days of passionate debates focused on several issues in seven simulated committees: the United Nations General Assembly, the UN Security Council, the Lok Sabha, the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation, the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change, the Indian Special Economic Summit and the International Press.
