A reception was held on 13 December 2016 at the Consulate general of France in Kolkata to welcome ten students from Lycée Saint Joseph de Lamballe, in Brittany, France, and their two teachers, who came to visit their partner school, Sushila Birla Girls High School.
In May 2016, 20 students from Sushila Birla Girls High School and their two French teachers visited their partner school in Brittany and came back with unforgettable memories and stories to share. It was this time their turn to welcome for ten days their friends from France and help them to discover their city and traditions. The French students also visited Shantiniketan and Chandernagore.
The guests visited the consulate and enjoyed typical French snacks like quiche, financiers and madeleine cakes for this occasion. The Principal of the Collège Croix de Pierre and English teacher at Lycée Saint Joseph, Mrs. Annie Raymond Lemée and the Principal of Sushila Birla Girls High School, Mrs Sharmila Bose, graced the occasion with their presence.
In his speech, the Consul General, Mr. Damien Syed, said that friendship between India and France is very strong and that such exchanges encourage students to learn a new language and explore a new culture. Some of the students said that they wished to study in France in the future.
