Official visit to India of H.E. Mr Jean-Baptiste Lemoyne, Minister of State for Europe and Foreign Affairs of France, in charge of Commerce and External Trade.

New Delhi, 10 June 2019

H.E. Mr Jean Baptiste Lemoyne, Minister of State for Europe and Foreign Affairs of France, undertook an official visit to India on 10th June 2019.

This is the first French ministerial visit after the formation of the new Indian government. The visit of Minister Lemoyne acknowledged the reinforcement of the Indo-French relationship and laid the groundwork for the visit of the Prime Minister of India, Shri Narendra Modi, to France, on the occasion of the G7 Summit in Biarritz in August 2019, on the invitation of the President of the French Republic, H.E. Mr Emmanuel Macron.

During his visit, Minister of State Lemoyne called on Dr. Subrahmanyam Jaishankar, Hon’ble Minister of External Affairs of India. On behalf of the French government, he congratulated Minister Jaishankar on his appointment. The meeting focused on the further deepening of the Indo-French strategic partnership and its contribution to a more stable and sustainable world governance.

Minister of State Lemoyne also met Shri V. Muraleedharan, Hon’ble Minister of State in the Ministry of External Affairs, and Shri Hardeep Singh Puri, Hon’ble Minister of State in the Ministry of Commerce and Industry, to discuss bilateral trade, investment and cooperation in the field of urban affairs.

At 11am, Minister of State Lemoyne visited the Alliance Française de Delhi and interacted with Indian alumni of French higher education institutions in the fields of business administration, engineering and design and students of the Alliance Française de Delhi. The participants shared their vision on why #ChooseFrance and why #ChooseFrench.

Hosted by Confederation of Indian Industries (CII), Minister of State Lemoyne also attended a lunch invitation and interacted with top Indian business leaders, including Mr V Kirloskar, President of CII and Kirloskar Group, Dr Chandrajit Banerjee, and Director General of CII.
