Shirley Lawes shared her views at Ruia College on 28th September 2013
Shirley Lawes, who was in Mumbai at the invitation of her friend Vasumathi Badrinathan, director of the Department of French at Ruia College, met the French teachers and students of Ruia College for two hours.
The conference was held in English and French (she speaks French remarkably well) and focused initially on the English school system and then on active pedagogy.
Shirley Lawes showed that using different tools (short films for example) and encouraging students to speak the language make language learning very dynamic : learn French while expressing, reacting and learning something else. This perspective that we find, for example, on the site http://www.canalacademie.com/apprendre is part of the new trends in methods to increase learner motivation by making the target language a vector of knowledge, exchange and fun.
Fifty students and teachers attended the conference, as well as the Cooperation Attaché for the French Christian Rodier.
