NSG hosted by GIGN in France for anti-hijacking cooperation [fr]
From 3rd to 8th November, five personnel from the Indian anti-terrorist unit, National Security Guard (NSG), were hosted in France by their French counterparts, the National Gendarmerie Intervention Unit (GIGN).
This action forms part of a longstanding cooperation between the two units, the strategic interest of which had been underscored by GIGN Commander, General Laurent Phélip, during his India visit in March 2019.
This time, the “Black Cats” from India’s Special Action Group 52, the dedicated NSG unit for air marshal operations for ensuring the security of commercial flights and interventions in hijacked aircraft, acquainted themselves with certain techniques of the GIGN and had an exchange on their respective expertise. The exercise also involved a drill in an aircraft at Roissy Charles de Gaulle international airport.
In continuity with this partnership between India and France on counter-terrorism, a GIGN team is due to come to India, in turn, in 2020.
