Launch of "Mukhwas Indian Food through the Ages" by Dr Alka Pande, 17 December 2013 [fr]

The Ambassador of France to India, Mr François Richier, released Dr Alka Pande’s latest book, Mukhwas Indian Food through the Ages. This book is a singular and personal attempt at untangling the various strands of India’s rich food culture, delving into the theory that food is one of the great unifying topics in India.

On this occasion, Dr Pande was in conversation with Dr Bhaswati Bhattacharya, physician and Ayurvedic scholar, on the current state of Indian cuisine and the process of rediscovery of indigenous food wisdom underway in India.

Dr. Alka Pande is a prolific writer on Indian erotic literature, Indology, Indian aesthetics, and is the author of several well-acclaimed books, some of which have been translated into foreign languages. Recipient of the Charles Wallace Award in 1999-2000, Dr Pande completed her post-doctoral studies in critical art theory from Goldsmith College, University of London. In December 2006, she was awarded Chevalier dans l’Ordre des Arts et des Lettres (Knight of the Order of Arts and Letters) by the French government in recognition of her significant contributions in the fields of art and literature. In 2009, she received the Australian Asia Council Special Award. She is currently a Consultant Arts Advisor and Curator of the Visual Arts Gallery at the India Habitat Centre in New Delhi.
