Mission of the Consul General to the Kingdom of Bhutan
The Consul General Damien Syed was invited by the Government of Bhutan for a mission in the Kingdom from 14 to 19 September 2016 with other members of the Consular Corps of Kolkata, the British Deputy Head of Mission and the Italian Deputy Consul. Mr. Syed was accompanied by the Director of Alliance française du Bengale, Mr. Stéphane Amalir.
During this mission, the Consul General paid a courtesy call on the Honourable Prime Minister of Bhutan, H.E. Tshering Tobgay. He also had a meeting with the Officiating Foreign Minister of Bhutan, Ambassador Tshering Dorji.
The programme included different interactions with other officials such as the Chief of Protocol, Ambassador Sonam Tshong, who offered a traditional Bhutanese dinner for the delegation, and the Secretary General of the Bhutan Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Mr. Phub Tshering.
This visit was the occasion to discuss the friendly relations between France and Bhutan in the fields of people to people exchanges, culture, education, research and economy. Bhutan is a model country in terms of environmental protection and sustainable development. It is one of the few countries in the world to have negative carbon emissions.
Mr. Syed also met members of the French community living and working in Bhutan.
