Masterpieces by S H Raza in canvas prints, March 13, 2010
Master Art & the Embassy of France jointly present S H Raza’s masterpieces.
The Ambassador of France, Mr Jérôme Bonnafont, unveiled a collection of 7 masterpieces in canvas prints by noted artist Sayed Haider Raza. These prints, from Master Art are in limited edition, with 60 editions of six artworks and 100 of one artwork, are personally autographed and numbered by the master artist himself.
Other Indian artists and eminent guests who graced the reception include Mr Satish Gujral, Mr Ram Kumar, Mr Krishna Khanna, Mr E Alkaza, Mr Jawahar Sircar (Secretary, Ministry of Culture), and Mr Ashok Vajpeyi (Chairman, Lalit Kala Academy).
About the artist:
Born in 1922, in Madhya Pradesh, Sayed Haider Raza, founder-member of the Progressive Artists’ Group, presented several exhibitions of his paintings in India, before leaving for France on a French Government Scholarship, in 1950. He studied painting at the Ecole Nationale des Beaux-Arts in Paris from 1950 to 1953.
In 1956, Raza was awarded the Prix de la Critique, in Paris. He has presented numerous individual exhibitions of his paintings and has participated in group shows and salons, including the International Biennales: Venice, Sao Paulo, Menton; and the Triennale, New Delhi.
In 1981, the President of India conferred the Padma Shri on the artist, who was elected as Member of the Lalit Kala Akademy in 1983. In 2007, he was honoured with the Padma Bhushan.
SH Raza is married to the French artist Janine Mongillat, and lives and works in Paris and Gorbio, France.
