About the Chief guest and Recipient of the award:

Ashok Vajpeyi is an Indian poet in Hindi, essayist, literary-cultural critic, apart from being a noted cultural administrator, and a former civil servant. He has published over 23 books of poetry, criticism and art. Over the years he served Secretary of Culture, Union Ministry of Culture, and as Vice-Chancellor, Mahatma Gandhi International Hindu University; chairman, Bharat Bhavan Trust; trustee, Indira Gandhi National Centre for the Arts (IGNCA); member, Indian Council for Cultural Relations (ICCR), executive board member of the Sangeet Natak Akademi, and Chairman of Lalit Kala Akademi India’s National Academy of Arts. His work has been translated into many Indian languages, besides in English, French (translated by Annie Montaut) and Polish. As a translator, he translated works of four major poets of Poland, Czeslaw Milosz, W. Szymborska, Z.Herbert and T.Rozewicz into Hindi. After his retirement for Indian Administrative Service (IAS), he continues to live in Delhi.

Annie Montaut is a professor of Hindi and Linguistics at National Institute of Oriental Languages and Civilisations (INALCO), Paris. She is also a literary translator. She has translated the works of Nirmal Verma, Krishna Baldev Vaid, Jainendra Kumar, Anupam Mishra and Alka Saraogi, Ashok Vajpeyi and authored a book on Hindi Grammar (Lincom-Europa, Indo-European Series, 2004). She is presently working on a book on contemporary Hindi literature and its styles.
