Couture Designer Suneet Varma Writes His First Book
Launch at Residence of France, New Delhi

As the readers navigate through the rich chronicle of Indian fashion titled "Suneet Varma", they can look forward to enchanting insights into the world of an elegant couturier who celebrates and applauds grace and sensuality. His exceptional journey comes alive in stories and memories captured in narratives by stalwarts and influencers of the industry. These interviews are peppered with a rich narrative brought alive by imagery of his collections, illustrations, sketches and iconic photographs. It provides a unique insight into Suneet’s design process, from inspiration to runway, and his vision for the future.

Mirroring the growth of the industry, it charts the designer’s journey from his early years as a sketch enthusiast to a design education in Europe, to his experiences at Yves Saint Laurent in Paris, to the date where he represents some of the most celebrated brands of the country.

Paying tribute to the excellence of Suneet Varma, H.E. Mr. François Richier, Ambassador of France to India, said, " Suneet Varma is a very dear friend of France. He forms part of the outstanding Indian grands couturiers who consider Paris to be their second home. His remarkable creations, reproduced in this beautifully conceived book, chronicle not only his meteoric rise as a designer and but also traces how he has contributed to carving a niche for Indian fashion in the world ".

The book is enriched with photographs by Prabuddha Das Gupta, Bharat Sikka, Tarun Khiwal, Farrokh Chothia, Hemant Khandelwal, Vibash Tiwari, and others; interviews with designers JJ Valaya, David Abraham, Vogue Editor Priya Tanna, Former CEO - Lakme Lever Ltd Anil Chopra, and FDCI President Sunil Sethi, amongst others, and an introduction and foreword by textile guru Martand Singh.

Says Suneet Varma, “From a very young age, I grew up around books and they became my best friends. Books – on Art, European history, Architecture, and the Indian and European classics, from the lyrical poetry of Shakespeare to the tender text of Kamasutra – taught me all I know about life and learning. I read them and reread them several times as each time I learnt something new and exciting. My book has been a labour of love and was started over a decade ago with my dear friend and photographer Prabuddho Das Gupta. It captures through imagery the creative mood of the Indian fashion industry over the last 25 years ".

A hardbound book in matt finish with 296 pages and over 500 illustrations in black and white and color, the book is inset in a black and red box secured with a ribbon. Authored by Ms Nishat Fatima, now the editor of Harper’s Bazaar India, it has been published by Niyogi Books and is priced at Rs 4,500.
