Launch of the Agenda of the Apprentice Scientist
A book by Nicole Ostrowsky
Physicist and Professor Emeritus from the University of Nice Sophia-Antipolis, Nicole Ostrowsky was invited to India under the aegis of the Bonjour India Festival of France in India in 2009.
During that tour, she interacted with students, teachers, and academicians in Delhi, Bangalore, Chennai, Pondicherry and Hyderabad. She spoke passionately to all people who met her about learning science through « l’Agenda de l’Apprenti Scientifique ».
Following the success of her tour, there was a strong demand for an English language version. Taking into account the successful, diverse and long lasting links between Indian and French scientists, the French Embassy in India proposed to Prof. Ostrowsky to help her put together a truly Indian version of her book. The book, translated by Ms Radhika Viswanathan of the Science department of the Embassy of France with Mrs Gillian Rosner and adapted to the Indian context is published by Universities Press Hyderabad.
The India’s most reputed scientist and Science Advisor to the Prime Minister, Professor CNR Rao, immediately accepted to write the foreword of this Indian version alongside the foreword of the French version by the French Nobel laureate Professor Georges Charpak.
This book was launched in 3 cities across India – on 16th November in New Delhi, on 19th November in Chennai and on 23rd November in Bangalore in the presence of Professor Balaram, Director of the Indian Institute of Science in Bangalore.
