Launch Event on Thursday, 13th December 2012
The Pondicherry Kitchen, published by Westland Ltd. was released on 13 December 2012 at the Residence de France. Chief Guest Shri Shashi Tharoor, Hon’ble Minister of State for Human Resource Development, released the book in the presence of author Lourdes Tirouvanziam-Louis, H.E. Mr François Richier, Ambassador of France to India, and Ms Sudha Sadanand, Editor, Westland. The release was followed by a buffet of Pondicherrian delicacies inspired by the book’s recipes and prepared by the in-house chef of the Residence, Mr Jean-Pierre Armandon.
The Pondicherry Kitchen was originally published as a French title, Cuisine traditionnelle de Pondichéry, published par Auroville Press in 2003, with a fresh edition in 2010. Celebrating the city’s remarkably rich culinary heritage, the book is the result of several years of painstaking research by its Pondicherrian author, who patiently dug up old recipes, collecting the culinary secrets of senior citizens, sourcing foodlore and gathering numerous old recipes passed on orally through generations.
The “Gourmand World Cookbook Awards”, established in 1995 by Edouard Cointreau to honour the best books on cuisine and wine worldwide, recently ranked The Pondicherry Kitchen as the top cookbook in India.
