La Martinière School Founder’s Day
La Martiniere Schools in Kolkata hosted their 181st commemorative celebration of its Founder Claude Martin’s death anniversary on 13th September 2016.
The Consul general Mr Damien Syed was invited as the Guest of Honour and Prof. Dr Anuradha Lohia Vice Chancellor of the Presidency University was the Chief Guest at this occasion.
The commemoration included hymns and prayers sung, toasting the virtue of Humility in children and adults. This was followed by speeches by both Mr Syed and Dr Lohia. The ceremony was hosted in the premises of the La Martiniere for Girls school convention hall.
The awards ceremony was received with thunderous applause as some of the school’s star students were felicitated for their meritorious performances. The Principals of both the schools Mrs Rupkatha Sarkar and Mr John Rafi shared their experiences with the Consul General. French courses are proposed for the students of the schools.
The Consul General’s speech highlighted the heritage and history behind the school and its French Founder as well as his wish to further nurture this relationship.
A toast was raised in the memory of Claude Martin before lunch was served and celebrations went on well into the afternoon as the Reverend from the Bishop’s House, the Guest of Honour, the faculty, the alumni and students converged over a warm and elegant spread.
