France’s highest civilian honour for Mr Guillaume came in recognition of his exemplary personal commitment to the growth and promotion of the French aerospace industry. The decoration was announced by the Ministry of External Affairs, Government of France, on the occasion of the French National Day on 14th July this year.

Recalling his illustrious trajectory, Ambassador Richier said, “For over three decades, Yves Guillaume has served the French and European aerospace industry with dedication. He has been instrumental in the growth of the Airbus Group in India in the past few years, which has also strengthened Indo-French relations. Moreover, he has been a mentor to several French companies coming to India. He richly deserves this distinction”.

“I am honoured to receive this award,” said Mr Guillaume in his acceptance speech. “It has been a privilege to devote my life to an industry that has inspired me from my early days and work for the Airbus Group, which is the most international aerospace and defence company in the world. I also thank the Embassies in India of our four home countries – France, Germany, Spain and UK – for their support to the company.”

Yves Guillaume is based in New Delhi and has been President India, Airbus Group, since June 2006. Under his watch, the Group’s turnover in India has risen manifold, thus contributing to the growth of bilateral trade between India, France and Europe. Moreover, Airbus Group has expanded its local industrial footprint. Indian companies, both public and private, are now firmly embedded in the Group’s global value chain. Airbus Group’s procurement from India has tripled in the last three years and crossed $350 million in 2013. At the same time, Indian engineering talent has been integrated in the global engineering setup of the Airbus Group. The Group owns two engineering centres - one focused on civil and the other on defence - and an R&D centre in Bengaluru. The Airbus Group and its three Divisions have together generated over 5,000 jobs in India.
