Invitation to receive the ‘HEC Honorary Degree’ presented to Mr. Ratan Tata

On Tuesday, 1st July 2014, in the presence of H.E. Mr. Laurent Fabius, Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Development of France, the HEC alumni of India presented a letter of invitation to Mr. Ratan Tata, Chairman Emeritus of Tata Sons, to accept the HEC Honorary Degree in France at a special ceremony at the Taj Mahal Palace in Mumbai.

HEC Paris School of Management
Founded in 1881 by the Paris Chamber of Commerce and Industry, HEC Paris specialises in education and research in management sciences. As a leading academic institution in Europe and worldwide, HEC Paris offers a complete and unique range of education programmes for students and leaders. HEC Paris has a permanent faculty of 110 professors, 4,000 students and over 8,500 managers in executive education programmes every year.

HEC activities in India
HEC Paris School of Management has been present in India since 1982, regularly recruiting students with a Bachelor’s or a Master’s degree. HEC Honorary Degree
The HEC Honorary Degree has been awarded to a few exceptional heads of States (Mikhail Gorbachev, Helmut Kohl, Romano Prodi…) and corporate leaders (Bill Gates, Jeffrey Immelt, Samuel Palmisano…). Honorary degrees are awarded at official ceremonies where the recipients are invited to make an acceptance speech before the assembled faculty, graduates and students.

Mr. Ratan Tata
Chairman Emeritus of Tata Sons—conglomerate with interests in everything from tea to steel—is India’s best brand ambassador and has a strong presence in France. Ratan Tata received the Padma Vibhushan in 2008 and Padma Bhushan in 2000, the second and third highest civilian honors awarded by the Government of India.

Mr Tata is also associated with various organisations in India and overseas. He is the chairman of two of the largest private-sector-promoted philanthropic trusts in India. He is a member of the Indian Prime Minister’s Council on Trade and Industry. He is the president of the Court of the Indian Institute of Science and chairman of the Council of Management of the Tata Institute of Fundamental Research.

Known for his charisma, vision and personal ethics, under his leadership, the success of the Tata Group, its contribution to India and society can be viewed as a role model for emerging economies and for multinational companies.
