H.E François Hollande, President of the French Republic visited the Lafarge Construction Development Laboratory on February 15, 2013 in Mumbai during his first official visit to India.

He was accompanied by senior ministers and officials of the French Government, and Bruno Lafont, Chairman and CEO Lafarge and senior officials from Lafarge India.
The Lafarge Construction Development Laboratory in Mumbai was inaugurated in 2012 and is the first of its kind in India to undertake research and development activities for Cement, Ready Mix Concrete and Aggregates. During this visit, Bruno Lafont showcased to President Hollande the range of Lafarge India’s capacity to design products, systems and solutions adapted to the unique needs of customers and partners in India. Some examples showcased were Lafarge’s high performance concrete developed for high rise buildings, a live demo on Hydromedia, pervious concrete that is an effective solution to water logging areas; low cost housing prototypes, and Aadhar, a low cost binder created for rural markets in India.
Bruno Lafont, Chairman and CEO of Lafarge said, “The Construction Development Laboratory will be a catalyst for the development of Lafarge in India. It combines three key factors: the opportunities for innovation in India’s construction industry; our global know-how in construction techniques developed within the Group’s Research Center in France and, Lafarge’s commitment to research and development."

Jean-Raphael Peytregnet, Consul général de France à Bombay during his earlier visit to the Lafarge Construction Development Laboratory said, “The Ambassador of France and I we have been both very impressed by what we have seen and heard during our recent visit of the Lafarge’s R&D Center in Mumbai. We were particularly interested by Lafarge’s efforts in helping the Indian rural population in getting houses built in advanced but not costly materials. It demonstrates the strong will of Lafarge to help India in improving the life of her population.”
