“Goût de France / Good France” 2016
The gastronomic event “Goût de France / Good France” is back in India (and the whole world) on Monday, 21st March 2016.
Food lovers can now save the date and choose their restaurant to seize this unique chance to savour and share, over the space of a dinner, the taste of France in India!

On Monday, 21st March 2016, we will be celebrating the second annual edition of the great global event, “Goût de France / Good France”. Similar to last year, the idea remains simple: 1,500 chefs across 5 continents will dish up, at the same time, a menu featuring gourmet French cuisine (aperitif and canapés, entrée, main course(s), cheese platter, dessert, and French wines and champagnes), making this a must-attend international culinary event.
This initiative – launched by the French Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Development under the aegis of celebrated three-star chef Alain Ducasse – aims, over the space of one-of-a-kind dinner, to salute the excellence of French cuisine, its openness to influences from all over the world (participating chefs are encouraged to blend their own culinary culture with that of France), and the values that it conveys: bringing people together over a shared meal, the pleasure of taste, and the balance between human beings and the products of nature. This second edition will also help recall why the “Gastronomic Meal of the French” was inscribed on the UNESCO Intangible Heritage List, and contribute to promoting French cuisine throughout the world.
Once again this year, the event will be celebrated with particular relish in India, where more than 50 restaurants have been selected across the country by the committee of international chefs headed by Chef Alain Ducasse, placing India among the top participating countries! Diners can pick their preferred ambience as they will be spoiled for choice: bistro, coffee bar, contemporary or haute cuisine restaurants.

What’s more, on the occasion of this event, Atout France, the French tourism development agency, is specially organizing a contest with the grand prize of a trip for two in France. Contest details are available on the Atout France website.

The “Goût de France / Good France” project is rooted in long-standing history. In 1912, Auguste Escoffier started Les Dîners d’Épicure (Epicurean Diners): the idea was that for one day, an identical menu would be served in cities around the world, to as many guests as possible.
In 2015, the first edition of “Goût de France / Good France”, launched by the French Ministry of Foreign Affairs, took the idea further, inviting many different types of eateries to participate in the global event and come up with their own specially conceived menu.
This event marked the first concrete demonstration of French cuisine being listed under the UNESCO “Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity” category.
Following the success of the first edition, particularly in India with 48 participating restaurants, France desired to continue this special initiative. Thus, every year, on 21st March – on the spring equinox – French gastronomy and the values that it embodies will be celebrated around the world. The French diplomatic network is rising to the occasion: this year, 150 ambassadors will host a delectable dinner to showcase this theme.
The event will be widely publicized by the Embassy of France in India, the French tourism development agency - Atout France, and "Goût de France / Good France" on social media, the French and International press, and by major TV and radio partner media, including France Media Monde (RFI, France 24, MCD) andTV5 Monde.
As of now, the participating restaurants are being given pride of place on the official website for tourism in France in 17 languages.
“Talking about cuisine, French cuisine, is also talking about joie de vivre, delicacy, optimism, and pleasure. Ideas that are all crucial to the image of France.” – Celebrated Chef Alain Ducasse.
Nearly a third of the tourists who come to France cite wine tasting and cuisine as being among the main reasons for their choice of destination. Operation “Goût de France / Good France” therefore highlights the French art de vivre and regional products, even as it promotes France as a destination.
