Gala de la Francophonie 2021
On the occasion of the International Day of Francophonie, the Consulate General of France in Pondicherry organised the Gala of Francophonie on 20 March 2021, for the first time in Pondicherry.
On this occasion, Mrs. Lise Talbot Barré, Consul General of France, presented Prof. Ramaya Kichenamourthy with the collar of Commander of the Order of Academic Palms. This distinction, at the highest grade, rewards a long career in the service of education and the promotion of the French language in India.
The girls from the Pavo Home then performed Baratha Natyam, a South Indian dance. This establishment is not an orphanage like the others, since there is no adoption. The children live there as if in a family, from the moment they enter until they can fly on their own, with a university degree in hand! The children all receive French lessons.
The second part of the show was given by the dancer-choreographer Jasmine Sarkar, who demonstrated Kathak dance, from North India.
