French students from EnsAD participate in a NID workshop

The French Consul General meets students and teachers from Ecole nationale supérieure des Arts Décoratifs (EnsAD) who are in India to participate in a workshop at the National Institute of Design (NID).

Marc Thebault, Professor at the Ecole nationale supérieure des Arts Décoratifs (EnsAD), came to Bangalore to explore the use of bamboo in designer objects that he wanted to produce. His delightful experience in the workshop of the artist Shanthamani gave him the idea to bring 10 of his students from his institute in France to Bangalore in order to experiment with different materials. The students are on an academic trip at the National Institute of Design in Bangalore and Ahmedabad with their teachers Marc Thebault and Sophie Larger.

Mr. François Gautier, Consul general of France, and Mr. Jérome Bove, Science Attaché who also overlooks academic collaborations between both countries, were invited to see one such production of the French artist Marc Thébault. This was also an occasion to exchange a few words with the students from EnsAD who seemed very happy with their exposure to India and its offer.

In March 2016, the artists will showcase the use of bamboo through a two-month exhibition “Bamboo for Paris”. Indian designers are also involved in this project.
