French options well-represented at the Urban Mobility India (UMI) Conference and Expo 2012
France’s know-how in the sectors of rail and urban transport was highlighted during the Urban Mobility India (UMI) Conference and Expo 2012, held from 5 to 8 December in Delhi. Fourteen French companies participated in the UMI Conference, backed by the railway industries association of Nord-Pas-de-Calais.
This annual conference organised by the Institute of Urban Transport (IUT) under the aegis of the Indian Ministry of Urban Development is a platform for holding discussions between experts, industrialists and public buyers.
During the Buyers’ Meet organised by Ubifrance, the French pavilion (Espace France) was honoured by the visits of Shri Kamal Nath, Hon’ble Minister of Urban Development, and H.E. Mr François Richier, Ambassador of France to India, who met the companies of the French delegation.
The delegation also included French elected representatives : Mrs Clotilde Tascon-Mennetrier, Vice-President of the Departmental Council of Ile-et-Vilaine ; Mrs Christine Bost, Vice-President for Urban Planning and Cities of Tomorrow of the Urban Community of Bordeaux and Mayor of Eizines ; and Mr Louardi Boughedada, Vice-President for Energy and Adaptation to Climate Change of the Urban Community of Dunkirk and Deputy Mayor of Dunkirk for Urban Renovation. At the invitation of the conference organisers, five French speakers participated in technical sessions of the UMI conference. Mrs Christine Bost and Mrs Samira Irsane, delegate from the French Ministry for Ecology, Sustainable Development and Energy, ably presented France’s approach to sustainable urban transport and the revival of trams in France.
This mission involving both the French corporate sector and institutional representatives was an unqualified success and is expected to pave the way for new collaborations between French companies and their Indian partners.
