French Senator Jean-Yves Leconte visits Kolkata
Mr. Jean-Yves Leconte, Senator representing French nationals living abroad, visited Kolkata on 1st March 2017.
After visiting the Consulate and Alliance française du Bengale, Mr. Leconte had a working lunch with members of Confederation of Indian Industry (CII), Mr. Anil Vaswani, chairman West Bengal CII-State Council, Mr. Sumit Chakraborty, Director CII, and Mrs Anuradha Chakraborty, Eastern Regional Deputy-Director.
Thereafter, Senator Leconte visited the campuses of Institute and University of Engineering & Management (IEM-UEM) Kolkata.
He met the Chancellor of UEM Prof. Satyajit Chakrabarti, the Director of IEM Prof. Satyajit Chakrabarti (son of the former) and the faculty. He had the occasion to exchange with French students from ESC Rennes taking one semester or courses at IEM.
Senator Leconte and Consul General Damien Syed also addressed the Indian students of IEM and UEM to present them the opportunities for studying in France.
Later on, Senator Leconte met French volunteers and Indian trainees of ‘’Café Toto’’, a micro-enterprise and economic activity incubator of NGO ‘’Life Project for Youth’’ (LP4Y), founded by Frenchman Jean-Marc Delaporte to assist poor youths in professional integration.
Before leaving the city, Senator Leconte had a dinner with several French citizens who have been living and working in Kolkata for many years.
