NGO Khelo Rugby promoted as "Diplomatie solidaire" initiative
On the early morning of 20th June, Mr Olivier Cassin, Deputy Consul, and Mrs Anjita Roychaudhury, Press Attaché, played some good old Rugby in the wet earth and pouring rain with the enthusiastic young members of Khelo Rugby.
This session with the young members of Khelo Rugby is a part of a unique initiative of the French Department for Foreign Affairs launched recently - “Diplomatie solidaire” which aims at promoting and developing projects in childhood, education, health and women’s rights. This award "Diplomatie Solidaire" was given to the team of Khelo Rugby, on this day, which was organized worldwide during this week from 19th till 25th June 2017.
The players from Khelo Rugby were thrilled to discover that Mr Cassin was quite adept at making a try.
The Jungle Crows (www.junglecrows.org) launched Khelo Rugby at the end of 2009, a focused community sports programme which is aimed at disadvantaged and socially excluded children around the city.
Founded in Kolkata by Paul Walsh in the early 2010, Khelo Rugby now runs 31 such camps in the city and receives over 1000 children. Khelo Rugby is partnered with French Sporting Brand Decathlon and Terra Indica, another exemplary NGO run by French Christophe Plais.
The players followed the game with a post match huddle in which they shared the real spirit behind the sport : respect, passion, integrity, honesty and solidarity.
The Deputy Consul wrapped up the morning with smiling photographs and a warm breakfast of French cakes and excited chatter with the children.
