France welcomes OECD climate finance report

Publication by the OECD of the report on climate finance – Statement by M. Laurent Fabius, Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Development

Paris, 8 October 2015

I welcome the publication by the OECD of the report on climate finance. Commissioned by the Peruvian [COP20] presidency and the French COP21 presidency, this report, for the first time since 2009, takes detailed stock of progress relating to the commitment by the countries of the North to raising $100 billion for the climate by 2020.

This assessment tells us that things have come a significant way, with nearly $62 billion raised in 2014. We must make active efforts to come up with the $40 billion still lacking. I would like the Lima meeting on climate finance, which I am going to tomorrow, will provide the opportunity for new ambitious commitments, particularly from the multilateral development banks./.
