Consul General Ms Sonia Barbry visits the French International School of Bombay
On Tuesday, November 13th, Consul General Ms Sonia Barbry went to the French International School of Bombay to commemorate the centenary of the armistice of 1918.
It was a lively exchange with the students, who presented their work on the Great War. Posters produced by the middle school students shed light on some unknown aspects of the conflict, such as the engagement of Indian soldiers. Then, in a poignant moment, the primary students put themselves in the skin of the soldiers by reading letters that described their life in the trenches.
The Consul General praised India’s commitment during the conflict and underlined the strategic role played by the city of Mumbai, the port of departure and arrival of more than one million soldiers. Moreover, in sync with the message of the President of France, she recalled the imperative need to continue to build and preserve peace. "Two things are crucial to the preservation of peace: education and diplomacy," she concluded to the applause of the students.
