France and India: The Higher Education Partnership
Welcoming the tour, the Ambassador of France to India, H.E. Mr Emmanuel Lenain, said, “Having reached our aim to welcome 10 000 Indian students annually in France, we are now looking forward to doubling this number by 2025. India is a major strategic partner for France and we consider student mobility to be essential for greater exchanges between our two countries. We are committed to keeping our doors wide open to Indian students and providing them with the best educational opportunities. With the Choose France Tour, the increase in scholarships and our attractive visa policy, we are helping students choose the right academic path in France that can enhance their career prospects and help them achieve their goals.”
The political commitment at the highest levels between both countries paved the way for inking an agreement for the mutual recognition of academic qualifications between France and India, the first such agreement that India has entered into.
Our partners
Air France, HDFC Credila and Niyo Global Cards are our mobility partners for the tour.
Over 10 000 Indian students in France this year
Offering top quality education and scientific facilities, France ranks third globally among countries welcoming the highest number of foreign students. 10 000 Indian students are choosing to pursue higher education in France this year, mostly via the English medium. The aim set by the French government is to double this figure by 2025.
As this number increases rapidly, the French Embassy in India is committed to encouraging this positive trend with supporting initiatives. The Embassy has developed a highly attractive visa policy for Indian students, which includes eligibility for a 2-year post-graduation employment visa in France.
Furthermore, all Indian alumni who hold a Master’s or any post-graduate degree recognised by the French State from French institutes, are eligible for 5-year short-stay visas. Indian alumni with French degrees enjoy many career opportunities in India as well, considering that over 550 French companies, employing more than 350 000 people, have operations in India.
Scholarships
The French Government currently invests 1 million euros (7 crores rupees) in over 500 scholarships for Indian students every year. In order to double this figure, the French Embassy established the Franco-Indian Education Trust in 2017.
