Celebration of Francophonie at Visva-Bharati University Santiniketan
The Consul General Damien Syed was in Santiniketan on 18 and 19 March 2016 to celebrate the French language and Francophonie Day with the professors and students of the Centre for Modern European Languages, Literatures and Culture Studies (CMELLCS) in presence of Prof. Sawpan K. Datta, Vice-Chancellor of Visva-Bharati, prestigious institution founded by Rabindranath Tagore in 1921.
The Consul General was accompanied by Mrs Magosha Fréquelin, linguistic attaché of the consulate, and Mrs Marjorie Bazin, course director of Alliance française du Bengale.
The students and teachers took part in the Francophonie programme fervently and enthusiastically, with French songs and recitations, to celebrate the day in the spirit of universal bonding and fraternity promoted both by the Francophonie and by Rabindranath Tagore’s abode of peace.
The French delegation had a fruitful interactive session with the students and meetings with the Vice-Chancellor and other officials of Visva-Bharati, in particular Dr. Tapati Mukherjee, director of culture and cultural relations. They visited different institutes (fine arts, music and dance), the campus and the Uttaryan Complex that encompasses five architectural houses in which Rabindranath Tagore used to stay.
