The Embassy of France, in association with the Alliance Française de Delhi, had the pleasure of inviting you to the release of Shiva et ses 7 danses (The Seven Dances of Shiva) by Raghunath Manet. The book launch was followed by a Veena recital by Raghunath Manet, with Sivamani on percussions.
Shri Jawhar Sircar, Secretary, Ministry of Culture, and Dr Sonal Mansingh, eminent dancer, had kindly consented to be the guests of honour.
Raghunath Manet, recipient of the French honour, Knight of the Order of Arts and Letters, was born in Pondicherry. He is a versatile Indian artist, being dancer, choreographer, musician, composer and writer. He has been a bearer of Indian culture to France and the western world, and is a famous exponent of Bharatanatyam.
The book has been published by Tala Sruti and prefaced by Jean-Claude Carrière. Manet’s fourth and latest book, written in French, is an introduction to Shiva as a dancer, the god who inspired the French sculptor Rodin. He depicts the inseparable relationship between Shiva and dance, describing the five basic functions of Shiva and his seven dances.
