Amelio’s first Annual Conference on Workplace Child Care to build Diversity
This conference has been organized on behalf of the Consul General de France for Chennai & Pondicherry, Mrs Catherine SUARD, Business France India, the national agency supporting the international development of the French economy and Amelio-Babilou, India’s first focused Employer Sponsored Childcare provider, on December 17th, 2019 at Novotel, Chamiers Road, 600035 Chennai
A key barrier to female labor force participation is the lack of access to childcare. Recognizing the impact that childcare provision has on women’s employment, countries such as Brazil, India, and Jordan have unveiled policies requiring companies to provide for childcare infrastructure & enhance diversity.
In 2017, India amended its Maternity Benefit Act requiring employers with 50 or more employees to provide childcare. Giving access to accessible, affordable and secure childcare facilities to employees is now key for companies. Moreover, it become necessary to support Indian Women participation in the economy.
Players such as Amelio have entered this space with the mission to offer the best early education and care to children.
Amelio, founded in 2008 by two Harvard Business School graduates, creates and operates high quality onsite preschool and daycare centers primarily in tech parks and companies. With over 30 centers operating across Chennai, Bangalore and Hyderabad, Amelio is India’s first focused Employer Sponsored Childcare provider. In March 2018, Amelio became part of the French group Babilou, expanding the latter’s foray into the Indian market. Founded in 2003 by Rodolphe and Edouard Carle, Babilou represents a network of over 1500 childcare centers across ten countries, including Europe, China, the Middle East, Singapore, North and South America.
As more companies grapple with the increased costs of this investment, this conference aims to shed light on the best practices, case studies, challenges and successes where investment in corporate childcare has enabled greater benefits for companies.
