Ambassador Ziegler visits Bhopal
On 5th July 2019, the Ambassador of France to India H.E. Mr Alexandre Ziegler presided over the closing ceremony of the Indo-French Project MPPMCL on electricity distribution network enhancement solutions, led by French utility company EDF International Networks and Madhya Pradesh Power Management Company Limited (MPPMCL).
Financed by the French government, the project commenced in April 2018. Its aim is for EDF to draw up an adaptation plan to improve MPPMCL’s electricity supply network (12 million consumers in Madhya Pradesh) with three priorities: reduction of power losses on Madhya Pradesh’s electricity network, better integration of renewable energy in the grid, and improvement of grid operation through the use of an automated network control SCADA system.
Speaking at the ceremony, Ambassador Ziegler said: “Electricity grids are a key infrastructure for any country, as they are critical for energy security, access to power for all, and the development of renewable energy. France pays close attention to this infrastructure, which is the backbone of energy transition. In a bigger picture, the project serves this core vision we share with India, a key element being the Paris Climate Agreement. I look forward to hearing Hon’ble Chief Minister Kamal Nath’s conclusions of EDF’s studies and discussing how France and French companies can continue supporting the Madhya Pradesh government’s initiatives.” Following the ceremony, Ambassador Ziegler and Ms. Sonia Barbry, Consul general of France in Bombay, toured the site of an automated transformer (unmanned substation) managed by MPPMCL.
Later today, he will meet the Hon’ble Chief Minister of Madhya Pradesh, Shri Kamal Nath. The meeting will focus on a number of projects being carried out in the state by French companies such as Lafarge and Bureau Veritas, academic and scientific cooperation, and cultural exchanges between Madhya Pradesh and France.
