One month after the State visit to India of President Emmanuel Macron, who gave a fresh and unprecedented momentum to the Indo-French strategic partnership, particularly in the Indian Ocean, Ambassador Alexandre Ziegler visited DEFEXPO 2018, where French defence industries were strongly represented.
The Make in India initiative provides an interesting opportunity to French and Indian companies from the defence sector to enter into agreements for the joint development and production of defence equipment in India. It is in this framework that the French industry desired to be present during the DEFEXPO 2018 exhibition, which helped strengthen the links between the companies of the two countries and identify new opportunities for cooperation between them.
Around twenty land and naval equipment companies were present, mostly at the French pavilion, such as Nexter, Safran, Thales and several MSMEs. The Naval group was also present alongside Mazagon Docks Shipyard Ltd., with which it is manufacturing six Scorpene-class submarines. MBDA was present alongside its partner Larsen & Toubro, with which it has entered into a joint venture. The Airbus group was also very well represented. All these companies have put forward their most high-performance products, most of which are used by the French armed forces. French companies are therefore keen to offer defence equipment that have proven their very high level of performance and are perfectly suited to the exacting requirements of the Indian armed forces.
