Ambassador Emmanuel Lenain’s first official visit to Mumbai.

Ambassador Emmanuel Lenain’s first official visit to Mumbai today was marked by the strategic aspects of the Indo-French bilateral relationship. He thus visited the shipyard of Mazagon Dock Shipbuilders Limited, where six Scorpene submarines are being built in collaboration with the Naval Group, a French major specializing in the naval defence industry and renewable energy.
The Ambassador also met Shri K.N. Vyas, Secretary - Department of Atomic Energy and Chairman - Atomic Energy Commission, to hold discussions on Indo-French cooperation in the strategic sector of civilian nuclear energy.
During this trip, Ambassador Emmanuel Lenain presented the 2019 Ambassador’s Travel Awards, organised by Atout France, the tourism development agency of France. Instituted in 2015, the award recognises professionals of the tourism industry who promote France as a major destination in their itineraries. In his speech, the Ambassador highlighted France’s ever-increasing attractiveness as the top destination globally, with 90 million travellers in 2018, of whom over 8 lakh were from India.
The trip was also an opportunity for Ambassador Lenain to visit the city’s oldest museum, Dr Bhau Daji Lad Museum, and have an exchange of views with Mr Nadir Godrej, Managing Director of Godrej Industries and the President of the Governing Body of the Alliance Française de Bombay, since many years.
