Ambassador Lenain undertakes maiden visit to West Bengal
The Ambassador of France to India, H. E. Mr Emmanuel Lenain, undertakes maiden visit to West Bengal (Kolkata - Chandernagore).

The Ambassador of France to India, H.E. Mr Emmanuel Lenain, undertakes a three-day visit to West Bengal starting 29th November 2019, to expand the scope of Indo-French forward-looking cooperation projects in various fields, notably economic and academic exchanges, tourism, social initiatives and culture.
Ambassador Lenain was accompanied by Mrs Virginie Corteval, Consul General of France in Kolkata, during his visit.
- Meeting with H. E. Shri Jagdish Dhankar, Hon’ble Governor of West Bengal, at Raj Bhawan
The Ambassador paid a courtesy call on the Hon’ble Governor of West Bengal, H.E. Shri Jagdish Dhankhar, to discuss the concept note drafted by the French Technical Experts Team (FTET), working in collaboration with the state government, for the revitalization of the Strand in Chandernagore.
- Street Food Walk with food blogger, Indrajit Lahiri, & French vegan chef, Sébastien Kardinal
One of the liveliest aspects of Ambassador Lenain’s tour was a street food walk with famous French vegan chef, Sébastien Kardinal. Mr Indrajit Lahiri, well-known food blogger and lifestyle media person, curated one of the most eclectic food routes on Central Avenue to showcase the many flavours of Bengali, Awadhi, Bangladeshi, Chinese, Mughlai, old English, and some very rare fusion street foods.
- Boat ride to Chandernagore to discuss revitalization of the Strand
Ambassador Lenain discussed with the Consulate team the details of the work done by the FTET, represented by Mrs Aishwarya Tipnis, architect, and Mr Raphael Gastebois, international technical expert, in collaboration with the state government. This project is based on the concept note delivered to the former and current principal secretaries of the Department of Tourism, Mr Atri Bhattacharya and Ms Nandini Chakraborty, respectively.
- Inauguration of the Terra Indica Training Centre Ashalayam at Bakrahat, near Joka
Ambassador Lenain headed to Joka to inaugurate a halfway house and training centre of Don Bosco Ashalayam, a home for rescued street children. This centre is run by Terra Indica, the French social enterprise, founded by Mr Christophe Plais, Mrs Magpie, designers Dev r Nil, and French sports major, Decathlon, in collaboration with Don Bosco Ashalayam at Bakrahat to give vocational training to these children to skill them for better economic prospects and mainstream abilities.
- Conferral of the insignia of Chevalier de L’Ordre Nationale du Merite
The Ambassador was pleased to confer the insignia of Chevalier de l’Ordre nationale du Mérite on Dr Chinmoy Guha, a friend of France and noted litterateur.
The evening, hosted by the Ambassador of France to India, honoured the contribution of Mr Guha and rekindled French cultural ties with this city. The Ambassador also engaged with various social stakeholders of the city during this evening.
