50 French teachers from Mumbai meet up at the Ruia College on August 8, 2013
On the occasion of the arrival of the new president of the Indian Association of Teachers of French (IATF), Amrita Raghunandan, and at the initiative of Vasumathi Badrinathan, director of the French department in Ramnarain Ruia College, fifty teachers met on Thursday afternoon at Ruia College.
After a brief and intense training session (strategies to encourage interaction and oral communication in class) conducted by Vasumathi Badrinathan and Christian Rodier, Attaché for Cooperation for French, the new president clearly explained the benefits of being part of the association, the progress and upcoming projects of the IATF :
A spell bee competition will be held in January and February 2014 with the final round in Pune, bringing together the best candidates from nine cities. In each city, five institutions will choose the best candidates who will represent their respective cities.

The IATF is a member of the International Federation of French Professors whose next Congress will be held in Costa Rica.
On her part, Vasumathi said that to do a B.A. with specialization in French and possibly get a B.A. French degree, the student must, in the 1st and 2nd year of B.A., choose French as an option from among the subjects offered. It is possible to choose French as an optional subject in the 1st and 2nd year only at Ruia and continue in the 3rd year or at St. Xavier’s in the 1st and 2nd year.
More training is planned in September, and Komala Devarajan will, once again, take charge of the coordination.
