24 – 27 February 2012 – French transport Minister Thierry Mariani assures French co-operation for a possible high-speed train corridor between Pune-Bombay-Ahmedabad
French transport Minister Thierry Mariani, who is on a three-day visit to India, said the French government has agreed to build India’s first high-speed train line between Pune-Mumbai-Ahmedabad.

During his meeting with Union railways minister Dinesh Trivedi, he also said that France was willing to finance the feasibility study for high-speed train in India as a part of medium to long term project. The two also discussed the possibility of renovation of the classical railway lines well as manufacturing of high-speed trains in India. According to him, French companies have shown their willingness to set up manufacturing facilities in India for production of high-speed trains with related infrastructure.
Indian Railways has identified six corridors for building high-speed rail networks in the country but are yet to execute them.
