2018 FIFA World Cup
Bangalore, 15 July 2018
The French football team was crowned the FIFA World Cup champion for the second time in its history – twenty years after the win on its home soil in 1998 – following a spectacular match won 4-2 against Croatia’s valiant team.
On the occasion of the finals, the jubilating crowds spotted throughout France found an echo all the way to Bangalore, where the Consulate General of France had arranged to screen the match in the ballroom of the Shangri-La hotel. The Consul General of France, Mr. François Gautier, joined in the celebrations that brought together more than 250 invitees from the French, Indian and diplomatic communities.
France’s third World Cup final in just twenty years, after those of 1998 and 2006, was a dazzling spectacle of remarkable developments and performances from Antoine Griezmann, Paul Pogba and Kylian Mbappé. The French team has returned from Russia with a second star on its jersey.
The Croatian team led by Luka Modric displayed excellent team spirit throughout the tournament in what was the country’s best performance in the FIFA cup.
