14th July 2015 and 150 years of the Consulate General of France in Bombay
The celebration of July 14, 2015 in Bombay was held at the Hotel Taj Mahal Palace, Colaba. The sesquicentennial of the creation of the Consulate of France in Bombay was also celebrated on this occasion.
Mr. Yves Perrin, Consul General and his wife Caroline welcomed the guests between 7.30 pm to 8.15 pm, the official ceremony (speeches and national anthems) started. Afiter his speech, Mr. Summit Mullick, Chief of Protocol & Additional Chief Secretary (Government of Maharashtra) responded by hailing the historical heritage of France as well as the excellent relations between France and India.
An exhibition tracing the 150 years of the presence of the Consulate of France in Bombay decorated the principal hall. A dedicated archival wall illuminated the photos, letters and decrees across the timeline 1865 – 2015, representing the Consulate of France in Bombay through the ages - ancient July 14 receptions in Mumbai, views of Mumbai from the 19th and the 20th century, Indian soldiers fighting in France during the First World War ... Two screens projected the presidential visits to Mumbai - of Mr. Mitterrand, Mr. Chirac, Mr. Sarkozy and Mr. Hollande.
About 900 people attended the reception, which took place in three rooms on the first floor of the hotel.
